Confidentiality

Client Information

Your client file will not be available to any other person other than your therapist and held in a secure locked filing cabinet. Information provided on each file includes personal details such as name, address, contact phone numbers, and any other information which may be relevant to the psychological service being provided. It is retained in order to document the process during sessions which enables the provision of a relevant and effective psychological service.

Exceptions to Confidentiality

There are some exceptional circumstances where confidentiality is breached. In the case where information is provided that indicates that a person may be at risk of harm, psychologists are required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities. In other rare instances, a court may subpoena a psychologist’s files. In this situation psychologists will endeavour to preserve as much personal information as possible.
